Our Chelsea boots are Goodyear-welted specifically so they can be resoled instead of replaced — a construction method that costs more upfront and pays for itself over a decade of wear.
Most mass-market footwear glues the sole directly to the upper, which is cheaper to produce but means the whole shoe is disposable once the sole wears through. A welted sole can be pulled and replaced by any competent cobbler, often more than once, while the upper leather just keeps developing character.
We’ll always tell you honestly when something’s designed to be repaired versus designed to be replaced — and we’ll point you to a cobbler before we point you to a new pair.
